  • Recently, NITI Aayog signed a Statement of Intent with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). 

About 

  • The partnership focuses on mainstreaming millets and supporting India in taking lead globally in knowledge exchange using the opportunity of 2023 as an International Year of Millets
  • The partnership will aim at building resilient livelihoods for small-holder farmers and adaptation capacities to climate change and transforming food systems.

About World Food Programme (WFP)

  • It was established in 1961 by the United Nations (UN) to help alleviate world hunger. Its headquarters are in Rome, Italy.
  • It is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
  • The International community has committed to ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition by 2030.
  • In 2020, it was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.
