Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)

  • The Union Minister told the Rajya Sabha that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the urban areas would be completed within a very short time aiming at Housing to all by 2022. 

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)

  • Ministry: It is launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
  • Aim: It is launched in a Mission mode envisioning provision of Housing for All by 2022, when the Nation completes 75 years of its Independence.
  • Scope: The Mission covers the entire urban area consisting of Statutory Towns, Notified Planning Areas, Development Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, Industrial Development Authorities or any such authority under State legislation which is entrusted with the functions of urban planning & regulations.
  • Funding: Mission will be implemented as Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) except for the component of credit linked subsidy which will be implemented as a Central Sector Scheme.
  • Beneficiaries:
    • The mission seeks to address the housing requirement of urban poor including slum dwellers.
    • Beneficiaries include Economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIGs) and Middle Income Groups (MIGs).
    • A beneficiary family will comprise husband, wife, unmarried sons and/or unmarried daughters.
    • The ownership of houses is provided in the name of a female member or in joint name.
  • Mandatory Aadhaar Virtual ID: All eligible beneficiaries under all components of the scheme should have an Aadhaar/ Aadhaar Virtual ID which should be integrated with the details of beneficiaries.
