  • The foundation stone of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh was laid by the Prime Minister of India.

About the Noida International Airport

  • The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a 100 per cent subsidiary of the project’s Swiss concessionaire Zurich International Airport AG at an estimated cost of Rs 29,560 crore. 
    • YIAPL is developing Airports under the PPP model in close partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India.
      • The idea of was airport had been proposed 20 years ago
  • It is scheduled to be completed by 2024 and will be located almost 72 km from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi airport – and about 40 km from Noida.
  • Significance: 
    • The Airport will become the logistic gateway of North India. 
    • It will significantly boost commerce, connectivity and tourism in the state.
    • It will be a multi-modal connectivity hub. It will create employment opportunities for more than 1 lakh people.
