  • Recently, the Union Minister for Power launched the Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Centre (SGKC) and Innovation Park virtually as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Programme.

About Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Centre

  • The new Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Centre located within the POWERGRID centre in Manesar is the first of its kind initiative by the Union government and technical assistance from USAID
  • The solutions which are physically present at SGKC premises at Manesar are also hosted on this platform. 
    • This includes solutions such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), smart homes, microgrids, Outage Management System (OMS), etc.
  • It will enable a digital footprint of the physical setup of SGKC, the need for which was felt during COVID-19 pandemic. 

About Smart Grid Knowledge Centre (SGKC)

  • The SGKC has been established by POWERGRID at Manesar for demonstration and advancement of frontier smart grid technologies with support from the Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India (GoI) and National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM). 
  • SGKC aims to be one of the leading Centres of Excellence globally to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and research in smart grid technologies and create capacities in the power distribution sector
