3rd Jan Aushadhi Diwas

News – Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) is celebrating 3rd Janaushadhi Diwas with the theme of “Seva Bhi – Rozgar bhi”.

  • BPPI is the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana((PMBJP).
  • The week-long celebrations will go on till the 7th of March.

Key Points

  • Jan Aushadhi Kendras conducted Health Check-up Camps across the country.
    • These health check-up camps included Blood Pressure checkup, Sugar level checkup, free doctor consultation, free medicine distribution, etc.
    • The general public who visited these health camps were also informed and educated about the price benefits and quality of the medicines being sold at Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

About Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana((PMBJP)

  • It was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in November 2008  under the name Jan Aushadhi Campaign to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses.
  • Mission: Create awareness among the public regarding generic medicines.
  • Create demand for generic medicines through medical practitioners.
  • Create awareness through education and awareness programs that high price need not be synonymous with high quality.
  • Provide all the related health care products too under the scheme.

Objectives

  • Making quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, through exclusive outletsJan Aushadhi Medical Store“, so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare.

Progressed made so far

  • The number of stores has grown to more than 7400 and all 734 districts of the country are covered.
  • PMBJP has achieved sales of Rs. 433.61 crores (at MRP)during the financial year 2019-20.
    • This has led to savings of approximately Rs. 2500 crores of the common citizens of the country as these medicines are cheaper by 50% to 90% of the average market price.
  •  In the current financial year 2020-21, sale of Rs. 586.50 Crore is made till 28.02.2021, which has led to savings of about Rs. 3500 Crore to the citizens as compared to the branded medicines.
  • This scheme is also providing a good source of self-employment with sustainable and regular earnings.

About Jan Aushadhi Store (JAS)

  • JAS has been opened across the country.
  • All therapeutic medicines are made available from Jan Aushadhi Stores.
  • In addition to medicines and surgical items supplied by BPPI, Jan Aushadhi stores also sell allied medical products commonly sold in chemist shops so as to improve the viability of running the Jan Aushadhi store.
