National Coal Index (NCI)

  • The NCI is a price index which reflects the change of price level of coal in a particular month relative to the fixed base year.
  • Base year: FY 2017-18.
  • Released by Ministry of Coal
  • The rates have been derived from a weighted combination of monthly prices of coal in various channels of the transaction, including imports.
  • It will aid in the commercial auction of coal mines on a revenue share basis.
    • Companies need to pay Performance Security to the government based on this price index.
  • It will affect the market prices of coal.
  • NCI is composed of a set of 5 sub-indices:
    • 3 sub-indices for Non-Coking Coal are combined to arrive at the Index for Non-Coking Coal.
    • 2 sub-indices for Coking Coal are combined to arrive at the Index for Coking Coal.
    • Thus, indices are separate for Non-coking and Coking Coal.

 

Vijayanagara

In News: Karnataka government on Monday issued a notification creating its 31st district named Vijayanagara.

  • New district was carved out from Ballari under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.
  • Vijayanagara district hosts two UNESCO World Heritage sitesHampi and Virupaksha Temple.

About the Vijayanagara Empire

  • Founded by two brothers: Harihar and Bukka in 1336 in the wake of the rebellions against Tughluq rule
  • Harihara I (reigned 1336–56) established his new capital, Vijayanagar, in an easily defensible position south of the Tungabhadra River
  • After the decline of the dynasty established by Harihar, Suluvas and later Tuluvas took over and reconsolidated the empire.
  • Krishnadev Raya was a major king of the Tuluva dynasty who took Vijayanagar to its zenith.

 

Unani Day 2021

 

  • World Unani Day is observed on February 11 every year.
  • It is celebrated on the birth anniversary of great Unani scholar and social reformer Hakim Ajmal Khan.
    • He was the Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in the Unani System of Medicine.
  • The day is marked to spread awareness about health care delivery through the Unani system of medicine.
  • It is a preventive and curative philosophy that has been used in India for many years

Unani system

  • The Unani system of medicine originated in Greece.
  • Its foundation was laid by Hippocrates.
  •  The system owes its present form to the Arabs who not only saved much of the Greek literature by rendering it into Arabic but also enriched the medicine of their day with their own contributions.
  • It was introduced in India by the Arabs and Persians sometime around the eleventh century.

Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region” (MOVCDNER)

 

  • It is a Central Sector Scheme under the Government of India’s organic scheme which aims at the development of organic value chains in the North East Region of India.
  • It was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for implementation in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, during the 12th plan period.
  • The scheme aims at the development of certified organic production in a value chain mode to link growers with consumers and to support the development of entire value chains
