India Successfully Tests ‘Pralay’ Missile

  • India successfully test fired the short-range, surface-to-surface guided ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ off the Odisha coast in Balasore, DRDO.

About

  • Development: It is developed by DRDO and is based on the Prithvi Defense Vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.
  • Surface-to-surface missile: It is a 150-500 km short-range, surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg.
  • Characteristics: The advanced missile has been developed in a way to be able to defeat interceptor missiles.
    • It has the ability to change its path after covering a certain range midair.
    • The Missile is powered with a solid propellant rocket motor and many new technologies.
    • Capable of being launched from a mobile launcher, it has the latest navigation system and integrated avionics, and will be part of the Artillery Corps of the Army.
