Selection Rate of Female Candidates
In a clear reflection of the nation’s progress towards achieving gender equality, the female candidates are progressively securing their deserved representation in civil services.
- Female candidates have grabbed 6 out of the top 10 ranks in the CSE 2023.
- This is a significant jump from 4 out of the top 10 in the CSE 2022.
- In terms of overall selections, 352 out of a total of 1016 results in the UPSC CSE 2023 are females.
- For the UPSC CSE 2022, this number was 320 out of a total of 933 selections.
Selection Rate of Science & Engineering Background Candidates
The exact figure of finally selected candidates who are from Science & Engineering backgrounds is not yet available. However, as per the available information, around 50% of the top 20 rankers in the UPSC CSE 2023 have an engineering and science academic background.
Selection Rate of Different Optional Subjects
The UPSC has not yet officially published data regarding the final selections in the UPSC CSE 2023 from various optional subjects. However, the news reports provide the following information in this regard:
- Most of the top 20 rankers opted for the optional subjects from humanities and social sciences in the main written exam.
- Among the top 5 rankers, 2 had Anthropology, 1 had Sociology, and 1 had Economics as their optional subjects.
Learnings for Future Aspirants
- Failures are not blockades: The result has once again established that failures are not blockades, but catalysts for a major success.
- In the top 20, most of the candidates have achieved their desired success in two or more attempts.
- For example, it took 5 attempts for Rank 4 Siddharth Ramkumar and 6 attempts for Rank 5 Ruhani to realize their dreams.
- Fortune favors the brave: Many of the finally selected candidates had to face failures in prelims or mains in their earlier attempts. But, instead of getting discouraged, they kept going and achieved their dreams.
- For example, Rank 1 Aditya Srivastava could not even clear the Prelims in his first attempt in 2021.
- So, candidates who have not yet achieved success should remain hopeful and steadfast in pursuing their cherished dreams.
- Perseverance and consistency are the key: Perseverance and Consistency are easily perceptible in the preparation journey of most of the toppers.
- For example, Rank 2 Animesh Pradhan, who had already lost his father a few years back, lost his mother to cancer a few months before this UPSC Interview 2023. However, he maintained focus even in these difficulties to realize his coveted dream.
- Right guidance is a must: A final selection in the UPSC CSE entails smart work done in the right direction. This, in turn, requires the right guidance.
