Brief Biography of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

  • Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam- “A missile Man of India” and a Bharat Ratna Awardee was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, and studied science and physics during the initial years of his life. He devoted his life to teaching and inspiring students to become the best version of themselves through his insightful lectures.
  • He occupied distinguished positions as an administrator with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
  • In 2002, the aerospace scientist became the 11th president of the India and served the office till 2007. Further, he dedicated his life to teaching after that. For Instance, he became the visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad, IIM Shillong, and IIM-Indore.
  • He was also honoured with the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan for his work as the scientific advisor to the government of India.
  • He breathed his last on July 27, 2015, and collapsed while delivering a lecture at IIM-Shillong and died from a cardiac arrest. Thus, his his contributions are still remembered as some of the scientific and technological developments in the country.

  • He helps to develop India’s First Indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
  • He became the project director for two ‘Missile Projects’ whose aim was to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV programme.
  • He took up the responsibility of developing indigenous guided missiles at DRDO.
  • He was the behind many nuclear test. For instance, a test carried out at pokhran (1998) which made India a nuclear weapon state.
  • He helped design a cost-effective coronary stent known as ‘kalam-raju-stent’ making healthcare accessible to all.
  • He was sincerely involved in the India’s Light Combat Aircraft project.
  • Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Dr. Soma Raju, came up with a rough tablet computer in 2012 to take care of underprivileged people’s health of rural India.

Thus, to sum up it can be said that his efforts are still regarded as some of the top scientific and technological advancements in the nation years after his passing.
